CLEAR SKY & 25
A few days late I know! Australia’s Got Talent auditions are less than a week away! I’ve left my diary pretty open so I can get as much practice in as possible! The only two things so far are a radio interview on Tuesday night and then Brookfield lunch on Thursday. Auditions are from 11am - 6pm, which is a while, but even if each act only has a minute, that’s 420 acts, and seeing as auditions have never been in Hobart before there may be a few more people turning up than that! My contingency plan is to busk in the line, which I’ve read is actually how one or two people have been selected before!
I’ve been privileged enough to play at some pretty amazing events this last week! On saturday night a young women organized a charity fundraiser for an Australian group that cares for kids. There were about 150 people there which gave the night a lot of energy! I played alongside half a dozen other acts, who were all really amazing! Many of the other musicians on the night would have been about half my age, yet I had a smile the entire night just watching the talent that they all had!
Playing at Mona last week was a great experience as well. There was just over 120 people, and I played for about five hours on and off throughout the evening, and even threw in a few Nirvana riffs by request! My PA system worked like a charm! I’ll do a review of it when I get the chance. I only have one speaker at the moment, until I can save up to buy another one, and I was a bit unsure as to wether or not one would be loud enough, but even 1/3 volume was plenty!
I’ve had a few people tell me I should sign up to an Australian music service called APRA over the last few weeks. Basically you write down the original songs you play and where you play them, and then you get royalties for doing so. If I get some more radio play it seems like it would be worth it! At the moment though I’m not sure I’d have the patience to fill out forms after playing somewhere:P it might eat into practice time a bit! But I’ll have to investigate a but further! APRA actually run the stage at The Falls Festival where I’ll be playing at the end of the year, so I’ll have to have a chat to them!
Later this month I have a spot at an open mic night a few hours from home. It was recommended to me by a fellow musician as one of the hot spots in Tasmania. A lot of local and interstate artists have performed there so I’m hoping to make a bunch of new contacts!
In between writing this post I’ve been working on my audition song. I’ll post a video later today or tomorrow perhaps on how it’s going! It’s a little hard to know what to play. I’d like to play something that is good enough to get me through to the next round, but save some of my better songs for later on! I still have a few days to work it out:)
I’m going to get back to my liquid guitar juice (apple and cinnamon tea) and keep practicing! I’ll post another update on Friday!
God Bless!
