Somewhere Over The Rainbow

The Skwiz!

So I just got home after playing in a town called Sheffield, which is about 4 hours drive from where I live! I played there as part of a Folk music night at The Skwiz Cafe. Around 50 people came along, so the vibe was great!

The audience were really lovely and supportive! As was everyone at The Skwiz!

I stayed in a cabin only a minutes walk away, so that was nice! Next time though I’ll take up some offers to stay with some people from the area in true traveling musician style! Either that or my car…

The music started at 8pm, and I was the second act on. I played ‘Over Sun, Over Sea’ ‘Little Seed’ ‘The Good Ol’ Day’s and ‘Oceans’ then for my encore I played ‘Audition’.

I’d love to play there again soon and I’m sure I will! Alan

Daylight Story #1

I’m thinking instead of putting the days temperature as my post title, I might label them sequentially, just for ease of reading and archiving. But the temperature thing will be interesting to look back on I think, so maybe I’ll just sneak the temperature (Patchy & 21) in as well:)

Last night I was asked if I’d play a support slot for the prominent Hobart band The Fritz at The Republic Bar. I was going to go play some MW3 with my friend, but this gig was almost on par!!
I played for about 25mins, then had a jam with the rest of the band on my song The Good Old Days. It was actually heaps good! The Fritz have a great pop sensibility, so it was great to play with them! They are traveling to Melbourne soon to do a few shows and gain some more exposure, so if you’re over there keep an eye out them! There would have been about 100 people last night, which isn’t too bad for a Thursday! I met some awesome new people as well! and did a bit of an impromptu show for them afterwards:P When I get a moment I’m going to brush up on my covers, nothing like a sing along!

Today I’m recharging at Gone Awol, before practicing hard for the rest of the day! Auditions are only two days away! Tomorrow the Huon Show is on, which always brings back a few memories, and then there’s a gig on at Brookfield with The Colemans and The Blue Mosquitos, both of which I’ve been wanting to see for a while now!

On Tuesday I had a radio interview with two other local musicians. It was a really enjoyable couple of hours. We each played a few songs, as well as some from CDs of other local artists.

Next week I’m playing at Irish Murphys at 8pm (15th) then Wednesday (16th) for the University Christian Fellowship, then Thursday at Brookfield over lunch (17th) then Saturday at The Village Cafe (19th) then Sunday at the Good Life Valley Market (20th) then later that day at Brookfield supporting Josh Durno for his EP launch. Then I’ll be practicing for the Open Mic in Sheffield (25th).

I’m still working on some new youtubes! They’ll be done next week hopefully:) then I’m going to work on a website update.

December is pretty much an open diary at the moment, so I’m thinking I may record a few songs for an EP or something:) Well more like a sample of Small Giraffes! I have 7 songs so far that I think I’ll have on it, so just another 3 to go! I’d like a tapping/percussive song, an alternate picking song and an upbeat fingerpicking tune, just to get a nice variety in there:)

I’ll post an update after the auditions on Sunday. If I don’t get through it won’t be the end of the world:) Things are going really well as they are, so whatever happens I’m in God’s Grace and Plan!

Thanks very much for reading! And check back in a few days for that update:)

Much Love!
Alan
